48th Street & Chicago Avenue S

INTERSECTION(1)Screen Shot 2014-12-10 at 1.24.25 PM

Located straight South of
Downtown Minneapolis,
48th Street and Chicago Avenue is an awesome intersection that is more of a mini-neighborhood than just a neighborhood.

Living within walking distance of this awesome area is highly desirable as the East Side of 35W tends to be more residential with fewer of these hubs of restaurants and shops than the very commercial Uptown, Eat Street, and Linden Hills neighborhoods on the West Side.
Welcome to the awesome
48th & Chicago!

Cornerstone Businesses
There are three main cornerstones in this neighborhood.  They have held down this intersection for years with delicious food and hangout options.

Pepitos Mexican Restaurant
PepitosSovereign Grounds
Sovereign Grounds has been roasting and brewing original green Arabica beans in this location since 1995.  A great coffee shop for reading or working, and their food is great too.  Revolutionary in thinking this coffee shop has a dedicated indoor playground, making it a busy local hang for moms and tots!

Turtle Bread – Pizza Biga – Cafe Levain
This is a delicious trio of go-to’s in South Mpls – you will find me at any one of these fantastic hot spots on a regular basis!  Oh, and did I mention they are all connected in the same building?
You can brunch, luncheon and dine on dinner all in the same building!

The “Up & Comers”
These businesses have been filling in and rounding out this neighborhood – all are worth checking out!

Bagu Sushi
photo 2Bagu is one of my go-to spots for quick and delicious sushi that is very affordable too!
They have cozy interior seating and a fantastic backyard patio that is a very zen spot for a glass of sake and a sushi roll with friends!
*Their menu also offers thai food for those non-sushi people.

Adrian’s Bar & Grill
Looking for a cold beer and a some classic bar food snacks?
Then Adrian’s is your place!
A great spot to play a game of darts and enjoy a pitcher of beer.

Town Hall Tap
Craft beer lovers take note!  Town Hall Tap is the place for you!
Some of my favorites at this fantastic tap room and burger joint are the fried pickles and Pete’s Cabin Burger – yummy!
During the summer months garage door walls open up to bring the outside in and the warm lighting and exposed beam ceiling make it an equally cozy winter spot.  Visit their website often to see what is on tap today!

Ken & Norm’s Liquor

On your way to a neighborhood bbq or dinner party and need a hostess gift or drink to share?  Stop into Ken & Norm’s liquor.
They steered me in the direction of a beautiful riesling (I don’t even like riesling!) to pair with a salmon dish I was preparing for a friend – so, not sure what to buy?  Ask!

Door County Sour Cherry -YUM!

Pumphouse Creamery
I have two words for you – rhubarb ice cream.
I will drive across town to pick up a quart of this dreamy treat when it is in season.  Cardamom is another fantastic flavor and then there is standard chocolate which is a dream.  This is a must-go sweet spot in South!

It’s A Dog’s Life
This intersection is home to a myriad of pet-friendly businesses!  As a dog owner (I am a little obsessed with my dog) I can tell you that both me and my dog vouch for these dog-spots!
Patrick Nau Photo Studios: Specializes in Pet Portraits!
Bone Adventure Pet Gear & Grooming: A great place to primp and pamper your pet & their toy selection is to die for!
Minnehaha Animal Hospital: This is a great place to bring your pet to keep that special family member healthy and in tip top shape!
Untitled design(4)
This is such a vibrant and packed-full intersection that we are going to have to do a PART 2 to feature the rest of the awesome spots – stay tuned for some fantastic shopping – salon/spa – flower shops and more!
Be back soon with more awesome shops for you to check out — Annalie
